Gibson Guitar Raided:
Here's an interesting link to follow http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/News/gibson-0825-2011/. The Justice Department has raided Gibson Guitar for the second time since 2009. This link takes you to the Gibson Guitar website. However, if you feel their site is biased, type Gibson Guitar Raid into Google Search. Other sources for this story should appear.
What This Means For You
Some news media reporting this story hint the law being used to go after Gibson Guitar could be used to go after ordinary, law abiding guitar owners, who may own instruments made of banned wood! Not just modern instruments, but instruments that may have been passed from one generation to the next; when it was legal to use the now banned wood in making the instrument. Madagascar Rosewood is the current wood in question, but no doubt, it is not the only type of wood banned in the U.S.A.
Another important point to consider is the Justice Department raid of Gibson Guitar shut down their factories, which costs them a lot of money. No company can sustain itself for long when arbitrarily shutdown. Whether the Justice Department is right to go after Gibson Guitar or not, you would think there is a better way to go about this.
Final Thoughts
There are potential political overtones to this story. I mention the story, not for the politics, but the potential musical implications. Gibson Guitar has a long, proud history of guitar making in this country. Tennessee people are employed at Gibson Guitar factories. Tennessee people have a long proud history of making quality music, as well as, quality musical instruments. Just raising my voice a little to make sure good people are not destroyed by someone's whim; be it the Justice Department or the leadership of Gibson Guitar. Keep an eye on this story folks. It's far from over!
